The Founders

José Parlá's intensely-charged paintings provide abstract autobiography for his life as an artist. 

 

Released as the first ever timed Avant Arte edition, The Founders is an archival pigment print on 305 gsm Hahnemühle Photo Rag Ultra Smooth paper.

 

The work was originally created for Parlá's 2020 solo show It’s Yours at The Bronx Museum of the Arts. In the months that followed one of New York's last great pre-pandemic openings, Parlá found himself unable to paint while battling and recovering from a severe case of Covid-19. The painting, which enshrines the all too often misrepresented subculture of those who practice within the public realm, gained profound and renewed significance as the artist reconnected with members of his community during this time. The result is a work imbued with the fortitude and spirit of José Parlá and all those who surround him.

Timed Release

The Founders will be available to purchase for 24 hours from 9:00 AM BST on Friday 1st October. Following the launch, prints will be made to order and dispatched before the end of the month. A label — signed, dated and numbered by the artist — will be affixed to the reverse of each print, and accompanied by a COA specifying the final edition size.
